SUMMARY:DNV & KEMA Excursion: Research\, Testing & Certifications
DESCRIPTION:Be quick! The sign-up deadline is Sunday\, 10/05. \nIn this excursion to KEMA’s High Power Test facility and DNV’s office in Arnhem\, we are seeing the complementary side of engineering (DNV) and testing (KEMA). \nDNV is a global company active in sectors such as energy\, technology\, innovation\, and maritime. In these sectors\, they do consultancy\, certification\, power failure investigation (PFI) and more. During this trip\, we will meet a few of their experts on topics such as power cables\, protection\, automation and control\, and wind energy. We may even get access to their PFI lab to see how they analyze broken systems. \nKEMA Labs\, part of CESI SpA\, has been a cornerstone in electrical engineering testing and certification in the Netherlands for nearly a century. As one of Europe’s largest testing facilities\, they offer a wide range of testing services\, including their high-power lab (2100 MVA)\, four high-voltage test bays (400 kVac)\, and 2.6 MV impulse generators\, emphasizing their expertise and significance in the field. \nWe will meet in front of flux\, and will be leaving Eindhoven at 08:15 for a full-day program in Arnhem\, with an expected return by 18:00. Lunch will be provided. \nThis trip is open to both Waldur and Thor members\, but if there are too many signups\, Waldur members will get priority. The total number of sign-ups has not been confirmed by the companies yet.  \n  \nMore on DNV: \nDNV provides assurance to the entire energy value chain through its advisory\, monitoring\, verification\, and certification services. As the world’s leading resource of independent energy experts and technical advisors\, the assurance provider helps industries and governments to navigate the many complex\, interrelated transitions taking place globally and regionally in the energy industry. DNV is committed to realizing the goals of the Paris Agreement\, and supports customers to transition faster to a deeply decarbonized energy system.

SUMMARY:Prysmian Excursion: The Manufacturing Process of Power Cables [5LEC0]
DESCRIPTION:We have been invited by Professor Peter van der Wielen to join his excursion to Prysmian in Delft. \nPrysmian is a global company that produces optical fibres\, telecom wires\, and power cables. During this visit\, we will be getting a tour of their facilities in Delft\, where they produce power cables (underground and submarine). Furthermore\, during the tour\, we will gain insight into their latest developments in cable production and how they can adapt cables to new environments\, such as floating wind farms. \nWARNING: If there are not enough sign-ups\, transport will NOT be provided. We will let you know way in advance if this is the case. \nThe sign-up deadline is Wednesday\, the 27th of May. \nNot definitive planning: \n\n12:15-12:30 arrival and welcome in the meeting room\n12:30-13:15: lunch\n13:15-14:00: presentation Prysmian and cable construction (for the ones in Waldur who also did not have the lecture in TU/e) and safety for the factory tour\n14:00-14:15: change to safety outfit\nFactory tour\nComing back to the meeting room\nWrap up and discussion\nLeave around 16:30
